Shellac nails are amazing. You instantly get beautiful, long lasting colour with no need to wait for them to dry, no smudging and no chipping!
But it can be very expensive to have them removed at a salon. But it’s really very quick and easy to do at home.
All you’ll need is some acetone (not to be confused with acetone-free nail varnish remover – it’s the acetone you need), tin foil and cotton pads. Chop the tin foil into strips, cut the pads in half. Then soak the cotton pads in the acetone and wrap firmly around your fingers.
Tip – leave your thumbs til last, and ideally have a helpful friend/partner do these for you as you’ll find it tricky with all your other fingers tin-foiled up!
Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Then take one off and have a look. You’ll be able to see if it’s ready – it looked like old, flaky paint. You can then use an orange stick or something to gently scrape it all off. Although I personally just use my index finger to scrape it off – it does just a good a job and I think it’s more gentle as you can tell how much pressure to use without damaging the nail.
And that’s it. Finish off with some cuticle oil and a bit of hand cream to give them a final bit of nourishment.
