If you read yesterday’s post you’ll know that I’m thinking of changing my blog name from shabby-chic-home.com to victoriachapman.co.uk.
I thought I’d use the move as a chance to redesign the design too. I quite like the idea of having a really clean, crisp looking design. No clutter or fuss, just the photos and content.
Below is a screenshot of what the homepage looks like right now.
There’s a rotating image at the top which will scroll automatically through the last four or five posts. Then it shows a full size image and a bit of the most recent post. Then under that there’s previous posts split into two columns.
Below is what a post would look like – much the same as above, just one long post with the same sidebar.
And here’s the footer.
You can see the live demo of this original theme here: Foodie Theme.
Things I’m Not Sure About
This uses the ‘Read More’ function, so readers can’t see the whole blog post straight away on the homepage. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I don’t normally like it – I like to be able to view the content without having to click on the ‘Read More’. But the design I’ve chosen is set up like this (although I can change it to show all the posts without the ‘Read More’ bit).
I’m also thinking of amending the logo/header area. It’s just text at the moment, but I might see if I can make something myself that’s a bit fancier. Or do you like the plain text name?
And finally I think I need to jazz it up just a little. Maybe add a bit more colour somewhere. Maybe in the sidebar somewhere. Do a bit of a branding exercise on it.
What do you think? I’m not sure I’m 100% happy with it yet. I’d really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions, even if you hate it – let me know below!
