Tom and I popped up to London this weekend to see The Book of Mormon – a present I bought for us for our first wedding anniversary (which was in May, but we couldn’t get tickets for this fantastic sell-out show until now!).
We thought we’d make a proper weekend of it, so we booked a hotel and headed up early Saturday afternoon.
I had wanted to go on the Millenium Wheel as I’ve not done that yet, but typically it was closed for maintenance that weekend! So instead we decided to go to the Shard. There were no tickets available to go to the viewing gallery for the times we wanted, so we headed to the bar instead.
We had to queue for about 15 minutes outside. Luckily it was quite a nice day, but it was still pretty chilly! After a while we were let inside by the doorman and greeted by a woman who took us (they let you in in small groups), into the lift and up to the 32nd floor – which took about 15 seconds!
As you can see, once we were inside, the views were fantastic. A couple were leaving just as we arrived so they let us take their table which was lucky. Drinks are expensive (my merlot was just over £9 for 125ml), but that’s to be expected really. A £9 glass of wine is still cheaper than a £25 viewing ticket!
I thought it was great. If there was availability for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea I definitely would have booked so we could have spent more time there. Plus if you book something in the restaurant area there’ll be no queuing and a dedicated table waiting for you.
So if you’ve got some time to kill in London, head to The Shard for a drink, you won’t regret it!
