Wasn’t the weekend just amazing?! How lovely was it to have a hint of warmth and some beautiful sunshine.
After being good and going to the gym in the morning, my friend Steph and I decided it was too nice a day to sit inside, so we headed off to Otterbourne for lunch at the White Horse and a walk along the Itchen Navigation.
I’ve been to the White Horse many a time and had my usual lunch favourite – a chicken and bacon club (click here to see what I look like shoving this down!).
We then headed off to walk along the Itchen River. The Itchen Navigation is a 10.4 mile stretch of unused canal, going from Winchester all the way to Southampton. Otterbourne is slap bang in the middle and it’s a great spot to walk along a small stretch of the canal (we’d been to the gym already, so had no intention of walking the full 10 miles. We’re not crazy!).
This whole area has been closed off due to the awful rain we had in January and February. It’s now open again, but the river level is still extremely high, and most of the pathways were flooded.
This was not a walk you could attempt without wellies!
Along the walk is a field full of ostriches, which was a bit strange I must say. It was a nice surprise to see something a bit more exotic than just fish and random birds! There was also a load of alpacas in the field behind them.
There were fallen trees at various points along the path, and it was a huge fallen one that stopped our walk in the end which was a shame. Luckily they weren’t all huge and we were able to climb over most of them.
After our walk, we headed over to the Brambridge Park Garden Centre (we’re so middle aged already!). This garden centre sells loads of stuff for the home too, so it’s not too boring, although Steph was slightly losing the will to live at this point, so I didn’t make her stay for too long!
All in all it was a lovely afternoon. Did you have a good weekend in the sun?
