As a treat for being a very loyal and wonderful member of staff at her company, my friend Steph was allowed to take her besties out for dinner to a restaurant of her choice to celebrate her 10 year work anniversary. So she opted to take us all to Hotel TerraVina out in the New Forest.
The hotel is just outside of Lyndhurst, down a long a winding woody lane. It’s a luxury boutique hotel, and is the vision of Gerard Basset OBE, co-founder of Hotel du Vin, and his wife Nina.
We had a table booked for 8:15, and when we arrived we were invited to take a seat at the bar. We ordered a bottle of bubbly (well why not?!) and were offered the menu’s to peruse. After a while the waiter came over and asked if we’d like to order – which I did think was a bit strange since we were still sat in the bar. But we ordered anyway. But then 30 mins later we were still sat there. So we asked if our table was actually ready (as we were all more than ready for our food by then!), and it was. They led us over and our starters came over almost immediately. So that was a bit weird. But the rest of the night was great – as was the food and wine!
I had pigeon to start and my friends had scallops – both of which were deliicous.
For the main course, I opted for steak, which was lovely – it was also HUGE!! Almost as big as the steak Tom and I shared at the Lime Wood hotel a few weeks back. There was no was I was going to finish it.
My friend Rachel ordered lamb, which looked (and apparently tasted) fantastic:
We ordered a trio of chocolate nice things (can’t remember what they were!) and a cheesecake (I think) to share for desert. As I mentioned above, the wine was also very, very good and we did make sure we sampled enough to really do the place justice!!
And the loo’s – who doesn’t like to see a picture of the toilets in a fancy restaurant/hotel?!
So my Hotel TerraVina review isn’t the most thorough of reviews, mainly due to the lack of photos showing the actual restaurant and general area – so apologies for that. And another one for quality of the photos – my proper camera didn’t fit in my cute little clutch, so I just used my iPhone. And I’ll repeat again…. we did have rather a lot of wine too!
So all in all we had a lovely night out and a great way to celebrate my friend Steph’s 10 years at her job. Which is even more of an achievement, considering she told us she took it when she was 21 with the plans just to stay there until she’d figured out what she actually wanted to do… although she did say she’s still trying to figure that out – but aren’t we all!
