Like most girls, I am just a little bit obsessed with candles.
Why is that? Why do girls love candles. My husband is totally not bothered. Sure he like how our rooms look when we have candles lit, but there’s no way he’d come home, light the candles and dim the lights to make it all cosy looking.
Anyway, I digress.
Jennie, from Sailorboat Jennie recently wrote about a new owl wax burner she’d bought from The Scented Candle Shop. I didn’t even know that things like this existed (I know! Where have I been?!). I popped over and ended up buying a whole load of candle bits and bobs (I’m such an impulse shopper! Don’t even ask about the time I bought a sportscar off eBay in my lunch hour!).
This little owl oil burner is adorable, and he was only £6.79. He’s a decent size too – bigger than I thought he was going to be (just over four inches tall).
I also bought some Yankee Wax Tarts. I wasn’t sure what scents to go for, but I knew I wanted to put this in our bedroom, so I opted for scents that i thought would be relaxing and calming.
As well as the above I also bought Soft Blanket, which I can’t photograph, because it’s now a melted pool of wax in my little owl!
Now, there are two things you should know before using a wax burner like this:
1. Don’t try and put the whole wax tart in at once. When I opened the first one, it crumbled and made a right mess. That should have been my first clue (i.e. crumble half off and put have in the burner and leave half for later). But no, I piled it all in the little dish/dip in the top of my little owl. Not thinking about the fact that it would soon all melt and overflow all over my little owl, and all over my dressing table. Oops.
2. If you decide to put the wax burner owl on your bed post, then fall asleep, don’t be surprised when your husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/mother comes over to blow it out, but forgetting it’s a wax burner, grabs it, realises it’s hot, then spill the hot, liquid wax all over your face and hair. Not the best way to be woken up. Luckily I have been left with no long term, visible scars (just the mental ones!).
However, even with the above issues, I love my little owl wax burner. I use it every night. I’ve only used the Soft Blanket wax so far, which is quite nice, although a bit sweet maybe. I’m looking forward to using the other ones soon.
